Broom Handle

there is a large broom handle

poking through my chest

it's really rather ugly

I wish I'd worn a vest

Powershell and Poetry

A Powershell script used to generate "poetry". The program uses simple rules of grammar to pick random words from various word files. The output can be tweaked by manipulating the input word files.

The Happening autopsy...

#badmovieclub event 13/02/09 watching The Happening

Opening shots looked like a bad home movie
Combine that with acting that would be laughed off stage at a kindergarten nativity play
Music that feels as if it's been badly dubbed over from a completely different film
Soon we are treated with dialogue that would have been rejected even by Ed Wood
I was reminded very much of Hitchcocks The Birds
If you look closely at The Birds it's a very weak film in terms of performance and dialog
While iconic, it's a long way from the Hitchcock quality we are used to
The Happening soon gives us the talented Zooey Dechanel but gives her *nothing* to do
It tempts us with the possibility of hearing her velvety singing voice
And then dashes our hopes and gives us Wahlberg instead
Plotlines become more ludicrous and absurd
Hitchocks birds are replace by plants - Attack of the Killer Tomatoes anyone?
The main characters are flaccid, secondary parts are cardboard cutouts at best
Towards the end we are even served up Norman Bates mother and Hitchcocks trademark staircase scene
At the end, inexplicably, everything is back to normal
Moral: Don't try to emulate Hitchcock if your not a competent and respected director yourself
